Voice Procedure demands that messages are sent in particular formats, including the way a message is sent and received.
This guide will teach you the correct procedures to use in each circumstance.
Calling is in three parts:
Initial Call
- "Hello" - alerts net
- "Callsign" - tells everyone who you are calling
- "This is" - proword which precedes your Callsign.
- "Callsign" - Your Callsign
Message Text
Whatever your message might be...
Ending
- "Out" - message ends, no reply expected
- "Over" - my message ends, reply expected
- "Out to you" - message ends, another follows
Answering is in three parts:
Give your Callsign
This confirms you are the right station
Message text
Answer with requested information or reply with "roger" to confirm you have recieved your the last transmission satisfactory.
Ending
Use either: Over, Out to you, or Wait Out if you cannot reply immediately
Single Call
A call from a single station to another single station.
Multiple Call
A call from a single station to two or more (not all) stations.
Collective Call
A call from a single sation to a pre-designated groups of stations disguised by a collective Callsign.
Limited Response Call
A limited number of stations are nominated to reply to disguise the composition of a collective call to save air time.
Exempt Call
A call to a group of stations where one or more are exempt as the call does not apply to them,
Note - this is combined here with limited response.
All Stations Call
Made to All stations on the net.
Rarely used as it weakens the security of the net
Always use limited response with all station calls.
Normally only TAC or Main will use all station calls.
Unknown Stations
When you do not hear the Callsign of the station, use the proword UNKNOWN STATION.
Defaulting Stations
When a station defaults (i.e doesn’t answer):
Allow 5 seconds for the reply
Next Station in the sequence answers up
Round up Stragglers at the end.
Order of Answering
Control Stations answer first - 0, 0A, 0B, 0C, 0D, 0E
Then alpha-numerically.
First by Callsign indicator A to Y
Then by fixed Callsign 10 to 44
Then by Suffix, e.g.; L10D after L10B but before L20A - "Zulu" prefixes come last.
Then by stations using NIS
Then by stations using address groups

Contact Reports
WHEN - Time of contact
WHERE - Location, your grid reference
WHAT - The contact is, i.e. MG Team, Tank, APC etc
WHAT - The enemy is doing i.e. moving left to right past our position or advancing on our positio
WHAT - You are doing about it.
Remember: Contact report to be sent on any unexpected contact with enemy whether it is an engagement or visual contact i.e. you have seen the enemy but remain unseen.
Contact reports are not needed on an attack or an advance to contact.
