In 1986 the Ministry of Defence proposed, and built, a FIBUA (Fighting in built-up areas) training village on Copehill Down, a mile outside Chitterne, Salisbury Plain despite vigorous protests from the villagers.
Copehill Down is a 'FIBUA' (Fighting In Built Up Areas) training facility where Army exercises and tests are conducted in the form of town assaults and building clearing drills and general Urban Warfare.
The village is featured in most of the promotional army DVD's and television advertisements.
It has provided a training ground for conflicts including the Cold War, the Balkans and Northern Ireland.

Sennybridge
Purpose built military training village for 'Fighting In Built Up Areas' training (FIBUA).
Building commenced in 1988, and completed in September 1990.
Plans based on a typical small German village that might be found in 1 British Corps sector of West Germany.

Swynnerton
Swynnerton Training Area was an ordnance factory producing, packing and storing munitions, originally during the Second World War. Located in Staffordshire, six miles south of Newcastle-under-Lyme and just west of the M6, between junctions 14 and 15, today it consists of a Camp and Training Area covering 563 acres (228 hectares) of MoD freehold land. It is ring-fenced to MoD standards, has no public access and has no bylaws affecting it. The area contains numerous old buildings and bunkers, an excellent road and track network (all of which is ‘drive-on-the-right’), open and wooded countryside, and a lagoon fed by the River Meece with associated marshland.
The Training Area can sustain up to 800 troops, from different units, training simultaneously, over short to medium periods.
